Tours · Private days from Cape Town

Four centuries. One city. One day.

Cape Town's story is told in its streets: a Dutch garden, a stone castle, a neighbourhood that was erased and one that refused to fade. A private vehicle and driver take you through it in order, and the CapeX tour app tells the story at every stop.

All CapeX drivers hold a PrDP and are background-checked.

The full day, in the order it happened

  1. We collect you from your door, anywhere in Cape Town
  2. The Company's Garden, where the city began in 1652
  3. The Castle of Good Hope, the oldest building in the country
  4. City Hall & District Six, 1990 and the forced removals
  5. Lunch in the Bo-Kaap, Cape Malay food, at your own cost
  6. Signal Hill for the view over everything you've seen
  7. Home, or drop-off at the V&A Waterfront

Why a private day

History is better at your own pace.

The story in order

The day runs from 1652 to today, so each stop makes sense of the next. The CapeX tour app tells the story as you arrive.

Time where it matters

Stay longer at the District Six Museum or over lunch in the Bo-Kaap. Your driver waits and the plan moves with you.

Entry sorted

Museum and Castle entry is included in your quote, so you walk straight in.

The full day, stop by stop

From the first garden to the first free speech.

Each stop picks up where the last one left off. The CapeX tour app shows what happened there, what to look for, and how long you have.

  1. Long before the shipsFor thousands of years before 1652, the Khoekhoe herded cattle here and the San lived off this land. The day starts with their story.
  2. The Company's Garden · 1652The Dutch East India Company planted vegetables here to feed passing ships. The garden became the city around it.
  3. The Castle of Good Hope · 1666–1679Five-pointed and stone-walled, built to defend the Company's settlement and now the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa.
  4. Slave Lodge · 1679Where the Company held the people it enslaved, brought from Madagascar, India and South-East Asia. Their descendants shaped the city's language, food and faith.
  5. District Six · 1966A mixed, crowded, musical neighbourhood declared "whites only" under apartheid. Around 60 000 people were forcibly removed and their homes flattened. The museum keeps their memory.
  6. City Hall & the Grand Parade · 1990On 11 February 1990, hours after leaving prison, Nelson Mandela spoke to the crowd from this balcony. A statue of him stands there today.
  7. The Bo-KaapBright houses on cobbled streets, home to the Cape Malay community for generations, and the Auwal Mosque, the oldest in the country, built in 1794.
  8. Signal HillThe whole story laid out below you: the bay, the Castle, the city and Robben Island on the horizon.

Good to know

Is museum entry included?

Yes. Entry to the museums and the Castle on your route is included in your quote. Some rates differ for South African residents and international visitors, so tell us which applies when you book.

Is this a guided tour?

It's a private day with your own vehicle and driver. Your driver handles the route and timing, the CapeX tour app tells the story at every stop, and the museums have their own guides and displays inside.

Which days work best?

Monday to Saturday. Some museums close on Sundays and public holidays, so on those days we build the route around what's open.

Can we visit Robben Island?

Yes, as an add-on. We drop you at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A and collect you when the ferry returns. Book the ferry directly with Robben Island Museum, early, because it sells out and can be cancelled in bad weather.

Is lunch included?

Lunch is at your own cost. On the full day we stop in the Bo-Kaap for Cape Malay food, and your driver can suggest a spot.

How many people can you take?

From 1 guest up to 14 in one vehicle. Bigger groups get more vehicles.
